  1. Walk me through how you'd design a globally distributed seller verification system that needs to keep data consistent across regions while still being fast enough for real-time validation. Where do you put the consistency boundary?
From the posting: “Drive cross-regional data consistency, caching strategies, and distributed transaction management”
  2. One of your 18+ Labor Insights services starts missing the 10-15 minute report refresh SLA during peak warehouse shift-change hours, and operations managers across several of the 9,800+ facilities are complaining about stale productivity numbers. Walk me through how you'd triage this live.
From the posting: “own design and development of distributed systems that refresh reports every 10–15 minutes across 3 global regions while maintaining 99.9% availability”
  3. Describe a time when you had to drive a technical initiative end-to-end — from architecture all the way through delivery. What was your role, and what made it hard?

Amazon is building India's Quick Commerce offering — Amazon Now — delivering everyday essentials to customers in minutes. We build world-class technology that powers store launches at scale, curates hyper-local selection, and drives seamless operations across our network. We are looking for a seasoned Software Development Engineer to serve as the senior technical leader for the team, owning the architecture and engineering direction across all of our charters — with a primary focus on the Selection experience: how we curate, manage, and scale the right assortment for every customer, in every city. This is a high-impact role where your technical decisions directly fuel Amazon Now's expansion across India.

You will set the technical bar for the team, drive the hardest design problems end-to-end, and multiply the impact of every engineer around you. Key job responsibilities - Own the technical strategy and architecture for Selection — curating city-specific assortments, managing per-store catalogs, and simplifying the experience of listing and onboarding new items at scale - Provide senior technical oversight across all of the team's charters — store launches, catalog and selection, inventory, picking, staging, and store operations — ensuring architectural coherence across them - Architect systems that onboard new stores rapidly across cities, and that scale reliably to hundreds of stores while maintaining low operational latencies - Lead the hardest design decisions end-to-end: evaluate trade-offs, simplify complexity, and set patterns the rest of the team builds on - Mentor and coach engineers, raise the technical bar, and drive adoption of engineering best practices across the team - Partner closely with product, operations, and business teams to translate ambiguous, complex business problems into durable technical solutions - Champion operational excellence (CI/CD, monitoring, on-call), lead design reviews, and own a high quality bar for all deliverables A day in the life You'll review operational metrics to ensure system health across live stores, unblock engineers on their toughest technical challenges, and dive deep into system designs — weighing trade-offs and cutting complexity. You'll lead design reviews across the team's charters, mentor engineers on architecture patterns, and shape deployment plans for features rolling out across multiple cities, ensuring rollback strategies, monitoring, and alarms are in place before launch. As a senior, you'll help set technical direction and priorities, with Selection as your primary canvas.

About the team

Our work reaches millions of customers who count on us for everyday essentials, fast. This role is the senior technical anchor of the team, setting architectural direction across every charter we own — with Selection as the primary focus.

It's a rare scope: deep ownership of one of our most important problem spaces, combined with technical influence across the whole team. We embrace our differences and are committed to furthering our culture of inclusion. We have employee-led affinity groups reaching thousands of employees globally.
