Interview prep: questions this posting points to

Written from 8 current Platform postings on Amazon's own careers page — not questions Amazon has asked.

  1. Walk me through how you'd design a globally distributed seller verification system that needs to keep data consistent across regions while still being fast enough for real-time validation. Where do you put the consistency boundary?
From the posting: “Drive cross-regional data consistency, caching strategies, and distributed transaction management”
  2. One of your 18+ Labor Insights services starts missing the 10-15 minute report refresh SLA during peak warehouse shift-change hours, and operations managers across several of the 9,800+ facilities are complaining about stale productivity numbers. Walk me through how you'd triage this live.
From the posting: “own design and development of distributed systems that refresh reports every 10–15 minutes across 3 global regions while maintaining 99.9% availability”
  3. Describe a time when you had to drive a technical initiative end-to-end — from architecture all the way through delivery. What was your role, and what made it hard?

Do you want to lead the team that transforms how safety decisions are made for Amazon's Delivery Service Partners (DSPs) across 21 countries? Are you passionate about building intelligent, data driven platforms that protect delivery associates every single day? DSP SafetyTech is a newly formed team serving as the intelligence layer between safety signals and decisions — interpreting what happened, routing it to who can act, and ensuring no safety event goes unresolved. Today, safety data is fragmented across seven systems with no single technical owner, causing attribution errors, reconciliation gaps, and duplicated logic.

We're changing that. We are looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to lead a team of SDEs, Data Engineers, and Data Scientists to build a governed safety intelligence platform. You will own three critical pillars: Safety Data as a Service (SDaaS), a governed serving layer consolidating telematics, incidents, and contextual enrichment; DSP Facing Mechanisms, a unified configuration layer managing compound signals and business rules across DSP facing surfaces (Scorecard, ORCAS, notifications); and Advanced Analytics and Agentic Capabilities, predictive models and AI agents embedded in the DSP Portal that provide actionable safety insights. This is a rare opportunity to build a team and platform from the ground up that will directly impact the safety of delivery associates worldwide.

Key job responsibilities • Lead and grow a cross functional team of software engineers and data engineers to deliver across multiple strategic themes • You can effectively articulate technical challenges and solutions to tech and non tech audiences • You have experience with architecting systems involving data processing components, workflow orchestration and dependency management • Architect and deliver a governed data serving platform that consolidates telematics, incident reports, video evidence, and contextual enrichment from multiple upstream systems into a single trusted source • Own the design and delivery of a unified configuration layer where safety business rules are authored, validated, versioned, and distributed, replacing multiple fragmented config surfaces • Drive development of compound safety signals that combine individual data sources into higher order, actionable safety indicators • Lead frontend and backend development of a consolidated safety dashboard, a single view where signals, scorecard outcomes, alerts, event video, and interventions come together • Partner with upstream platform teams to integrate sensing and signal fusion capabilities, positioning the team as the distribution and applied science layer • Drive development of AI powered agents that make safety intelligence accessible to partners in plain language • Define and track success metrics including signal to surface latency, configuration deployment time, incident context assembly time, and signal launch velocity • Operate with two core principles: Zero Gravity (collapse dependencies into a single orchestrator) and Zero Friction (remove barriers between insight and action) A day in the life You will lead a team building the safety intelligence backbone for Amazon's DSP ecosystem. Your day may involve reviewing architectural designs for the governed data layer, partnering with upstream platform teams on signal integration, unblocking your engineers on the unified configuration layer, and reviewing predictive model outputs from your data scientists. You will regularly engage with stakeholders across investigations, claims, insurance, accountability, and legal teams to understand their pain points and translate those into platform capabilities. You'll balance strategic roadmap planning with hands on technical leadership, ensuring your team delivers operationally stable, scalable solutions across multiple countries.

About the team

DSP Safety Tech is a newly established team with a clear mission: convert every safety event into a clear, trusted action for every DSP, in every market, every time. Our North Star is ensuring every safety signal reaches the people who can act on it, with the context needed to make timely decisions, so risks are identified earlier, decisions are made consistently, and every Delivery Associate goes home safely. We operate at the intersection of data engineering, applied science, and product development, serving stakeholders from investigators to insurance to DSP owners themselves. We're building from the ground up with a strong vision, executive sponsorship, and the freedom to innovate across the full stack, from governed data pipelines to AI powered agentic experiences.
